Green Cleaning |
| Cleaning
for Health and Safety |
| A
well-designed healthy building does not have to be
complex or expensive. In schools, universities,
hospitals, hotels, office buildings and other
facilities, focusing in environmental stewardship
can make a significant difference in the quality
of the indoor environment while reducing risk to
cleaning personnel and occupants. |
Going
Green
Billions of dollars annually are dedicated to
labor, products and equipment to clean and
maintain schools,
hospitals, hotels, offices and other facilities.
Protecting the built environment has a profound
impact on our natural environment, economy,
health and productivity. The US Green Building Councils
rating system addresses the environmental and
health impacts associated with design, construction and building
operations. Their LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)
building certification includes cleaning requirements and
standards that are being adopted by public- and private-sector
organizations that are committed to environmental stewardship. |

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
|
The LEED (Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating
System is a voluntary, consensus-based national
standard for developing high-performance,
sustainable buildings. Members of the U.S. Green
Building Council representing all segments of the
building industry developed LEED and continue to
contribute to its evolution. LEED standards are
currently available or under development for:
- New commercial construction
and major renovation projects (LEED-NC)
- Existing building operations (LEED-EB)
- Commercial interiors projects (LEED-CI)
- Core and shell projects (LEED-CS)
- Homes (LEED-H)
- Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND)

Adopting Green
Cleaning Standards To Earn LEED Points |
| The LEED-EB Rating
certification is based on a point system, with at
least 31 points needed for certification. Green
cleaning practices can help you earn points in the
following categories. For more information on how
to apply LEED-EB in your building, visit the
United States Green Building Councils website at
